For me, that question is a little more complicated than it seems.
I have Borderline Personality Disorder which gives a warped idea of identity. I suppose I could begin with a summary of the essential details, perhaps in bullet points for clarity:
- Kayleigh Hather
- Twenty-two years old
- History Student
- Freelance writer
However clear and concise this may be, it’s hardly a sufficient description of who I am. It doesn’t tell you that I love reading books and have a stockpile of Classic literature piled up in the dusty corners of cupboards because they won’t fit on my bookshelf. Or that while I don’t watch much television I routinely devour each episode of Pretty Little Liars along with every movie on the Empire’s ‘Top 100 movies’ list.
It doesn’t tell you my values. That I love people: my family and friends, but everyone else too! I want to bring joy to people’s lives and raise awareness for those without such a loud voice in society. The unwell. The marginalised. The abused.
Even with this information I’m still a stranger. A stranger sat with her cat on the other side of another computer in another place. But I hope that by reading the articles and stories on this blog you’ll get to know me a bit more. I’d love to get to know you too, so feel free to post comments and questions wherever you fancy.
